Boris and Marcello

17 Sep

On today’s bike ride, Marcello made room in his basket for our new friend, Boris. That is the name of my adorable new camera. I was sick of the memory stick showing up as “NO NAME” on my desktop, so I dubbed him (and therefore the entire camera) Boris.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to show you some of the things I see on my weekly rides through Boris’s lens. All the shots were taken on the way back, but I will start with where my biking journey begins each time:

I may live on the not-so-fashionable west side of the river, but I bet my view is better than yours. :P

The total loop today was 4.5 miles, and here’s the view to the east of my midway point:

And to the west:

Next up, I became the one-millionth person to take an “artsy” shot of the 21st/23rd Street Bridge:

I live in Tulsa, where road construction is constant and never-ending. Here’s some on the trail:

This shot from the east side of the Arkansas River shows off the tents set up for this weekend’s Scottish games as well as a certain apartment complex and part of the OSU-Tulsa medical school:

This is the hill that takes you up 15th Street. It was the hardest part of my bike ride to the farmers market for sure:

Here we have a slab of Route 66 and, well, more construction!

This bridge takes me to and from the east side:

This is a scary little hill that makes me want to yell “whee!” and wish I wore knee and elbow pads at the same time:

So that’s a little sneak look at what I see on my rides. I have plenty of not-so-nice things to say about Tulsa, but it’s a pretty city.

And here’s today’s pedaling playlist:

  1. Moby, “Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?”
  2. The Shins, “Mine’s Not a High Horse”
  3. Simon & Garfunkel, “The Sound of Silence”
  4. Taylor Swift, “Should’ve Said No”
  5. Moby, “South Side”
  6. David Bowie, “Ziggy Stardust”
  7. Dar Williams, “Southern California Wants to Be Western New York”
  8. Outkast, “Bowtie”
  9. Bonnie Raitt, “Angel from Montgomery”
  10. Counting Crowes, “Blackberry”

Apparently my Nano was cranky on the way down and into Moby.

Rees’ Cuppage

17 Sep

I was pondering what to do with some of my tea party leftovers. As you saw earlier this week, I ate many of them. The cookies and cupcakes are gone, as are the white bean dip and veggies. I believe the cream cheese is still there, but that should probably become dinner for the garbage disposal today. The only other thing that came to mind was the chocolate chips and the peanut butter (which is not my preferred brand to eat on its own). That led me to doing something terrible. Ghastly. Inexcusable.

I decided to find a recipe for homemade peanut butter cups.

I don’t know what I was thinking. I don’t know how this fits into my attempt to clean up my eating after a weekend and subsequent week of gluttony. I just know that it had to happen.

And so it did. I regret nothing.

I used Have Cake Will Travel’s incredibly easy and delicious recipe. However, in honor of the failed campaign of my favorite example of “I can’t believe he doesn’t think that’s copyright infringement!”, I have dubbed these Rees’ Cuppage.

I wonder if he regrets nothing.

Anyway, check out the recipe, but basically you combine chocolate with a little peanut butter, then peanut butter with sugar, and then you top it all off with more chocolate. How could you go wrong?

Oh so right. I didn’t manage to completely cover the peanut butter on the sides, as you can see, but I was 10 kinds of cranky last night thanks to Trenitalia‘s evil, mean, stupid website, so I really, really don’t care. And yes, one is missing because it soothed me after I made them.

Does this picture give you vertigo? I would like to point out that this is not a scheduled post, though I did prepare these last night. No, I am actually eating candy at 9:30 on a Friday morning. But it isn’t my breakfast. No no no, that would just be silly. Consider it a pre-breakfast amuse bouche.

My bouche is très amused.

And now Marcello shall help me get back on track. Happy Friday, everyone!

Update: I s’pose I should have mentioned some real comments on this recipe other than “soooo goooood!”, so here you have it: I think next time I would add vanilla to either the chocolate or the peanut butter. I think it would be fun to experiment with adding a little coconut milk to the chocolate, too. Otherwise, I loved it just the way it was.
